Xu Rally - Art by Koop

Xu (#9) is the Chinese team in Grand Tour Racing 98, Total Drivin’, M6 Turbo Racing and Gekisou Grand Racing.

1997 Manual Description

Team Xu is from Hong Kong, China, where the recent emancipation from the United Kingdom has resulted in an all-Chinese team dead-set on taking the Grand Tour crown.

When members of the Xu team are not honing their mental abilities in a Shaolin monastery, they are fine-tuning their driving skills on the Kowloon Peninsula. This Pacific Rim experience has made team Xu the favorite in Hong Kong.

Vehicles

Team Xu’s cars tend to be stable and resilient middleweights, with excellent handling and low top speeds.

Rossi Rally - Art by Koop

Rossi (#7) is the Italian team in Grand Tour Racing 98, Total Drivin’, M6 Turbo Racing and Gekisou Grand Racing.

1997 Manual Description

Team Rossi comes from the medieval town of Fiesole, Italy, where roads narrow without warning and cobblestones quickly turn to dirt.

When the carefree members of the Rossi team are not romancing the local ragazzas or enjoying fine wine, they can be found hot-footing through the rugged Florentine countryside. This off-road experience, “Italian-style”, has made Rossi a team to contend with in Egypt.

Vehicles

Team Rossi cars are lightweights with reasonably high top speeds. They tend to be vulnerable to attacks.

Ahmed (#6) is the Egyptian team in Grand Tour Racing 98, Total Drivin’ and Gekisou Grand Racing. In M6 Turbo Racing, this team’s name is changed to “M6”.

1997 Manual Description

Team Ahmed is from Cairo, Egypt, where sand dunes threaten to crash down like tidal waves and desert roadways transform into canyons of stone.

When the mysterious members of the Ahmed team are not scaling pyramids or bartering in Cairo Market, they can be found off-roading through timeless archaeological digs. This suitably Saharan experience has made team Ahmed the favorite in Egypt.

Vehicles

Team Ahmed’s cars offer blazing top speeds and acceleration, but substandard handling and stability.

Baptiste (#5) is the Jamaican team in Grand Tour Racing 98, Total Drivin, M6 Turbo Racing and Gekisou Grand Racing.

1997 Manual Description

Team Baptiste hails from Kingston, Jamaica, where fruit plantations abound and waterfalls splash refreshingly.

When the members of the Baptiste team are not listening to reggae music or playing steel drums, they are usually kicking up sand, “irie-style”, near Montego Bay. This Rastafarian-style racing experience has made them a contender on Easter Island.

Vehicles

Team Baptiste features cars with slightly difficult handling, decent top speeds, and superior attack-resistance. Continue reading Baptiste

Ivanov (#4) is the Russian team in Grand Tour Racing 98, Total Drivin, M6 Turbo Racing and Gekisou Grand Racing.

1997 Manual Description

Team Ivanov comes straight from Moscow, Russia, where the pressure to succeed is as common as demonstrations in Red Square.

When the time-hardened members of the Ivanov team are not launching skyward in MiGs or training in Gorky Park, they can be found rocketing through Mother Russia. This intense post-Soviet experience has resulted in Glasnost on the highways and makes them the favorite in Moscow.

Vehicles

Team Ivanov features strong, heavyweight vehicles that can withstand and inflict damage extremely well.

Lumiere (#3) is the French team in Grand Tour Racing 98, Total Drivin’, M6 Turbo Racing and Gekisou Grand Racing.

1997 Manual Description

Team Lumiere comes from Bordeaux, France, where food and drink are second only to speed.

When members of the Lumiere team are not appreciating life’s little pleasures, they are ripping through the rough terrain of local French wine vineyards. While this has not endeared them to many of the local gentry, it has given them the competitive edge needed to succeed on Easter Island.

Vehicles

Lumiere cars feature reasonable top speeds and handling, but poor acceleration. They tend to be vulnerable when hit by opponents. Continue reading Lumiere

Morgen Rally - Art by Koop

Morgen (#2) is the American team in Grand Tour Racing 98, Total Drivin’, M6 Turbo Racing and Gekisou Grand Racing.

1997 Manual Description

Team Morgen enters the Grand Tour circuit from Big Sky, Montana, where there are no speed limits and a six-month winter is commonplace.

When the fearless members of the Morgen team are not skiing from the peak of majestic Lone Mountain or white-water rafting down the raging Gallatin river, they can be found careening down precipitous alpine passes. This high-altitude experience has made Morgen the team to beat in Switzerland and a favorite for the Grand Tour Championship.

Vehicles

Team Morgen’s cars have fast top speeds and acceleration, but are rather susceptible to attacks.

The Morgen Rally is a replica of the Toyota Celica (GT4, Mk.V, ST185). It provides a better top speed and handling than Baptiste, but weaker attack-resistance. | Resembles: Baptiste

Morgen Stunts

The Morgen Sports Car resembles the Dodge Viper. This car is notorious for its dismal handling and turning speed. It is prone to many attacks, and performs random flips upon hitting the wall.

See “Morgen Stunts” for its full “Acrobaticar” potential. | Resembles: None

The Morgen Dakar is a Citroen ZX rally raid. It features a balance of good top speed, handling, and lightweight stability. However, it can be rather susceptible to high attacks. | Resembles: Ahmed

(Swit 7) Morgen Invades Lumiere’s Home

The Morgen Buggy is a stable, rear-wheel-drive middleweight. This vehicle is a versatile balance of high top speed, good handling, and superior attack-resistance. | Resembles: Lumiere

The Morgen Indy Car is middleweight, with a good top speed and handling. It will spin out when attacked by opponents, especially from behind. | Resembles: All Indy Cars

GTR98 Menu Morgen

AI Morgen

Team Morgen is known to be a successful overtaker. Without a home track, they must start each race at low positions (6th – 7th).

AI Morgen Rally tends to suffer from poor handling. While achieving decent to good results in Switzerland, his Scotland display lacks quality.

AI Morgen Sports is a solid overtaker in several levels, particularly the early ones. He is notorious for performing Acrobaticar flips, which provide hilarious entertainment for the human player.

(Moscow 5) Morgen’s Intense Workout

AI Morgen Indy is a decent overtaker in Moscow & Hong Kong. However, he does not often finish as strongly as Rossi, his HomeTracker counterpart.

AI Morgen Dakar is an excellent driver and overtaker. He is programmed to outperform his opponents in many levels, particularly the Egypt ones.

AI Morgen Buggy is an average opponent who occasionally makes a strong impression. He is known for his mediocre display at fast speeds, especially when on a bumpy stretch.

Roberts Rally - Art by Koop

Roberts (#1) is the UK team in Grand Tour Racing 98, Total Drivin’, M6 Turbo Racing and Gekisou Grand Racing.

1997 Manual Description

Team Roberts hails from Newcastle, England, where country roads wind unforgivably and rally racing is the only way to go.

When the speed-intoxicated members of the Roberts team are not hoisting mugs of ale on the Quayside or touring local castles, they are often found blasting down the middle of English roadways (even though the left is the law). This wee bit of experience has made Roberts the team to beat in Scotland and another favorite to capture the Grand Tour Championship.

Vehicles

Team Roberts vehicles are middleweights with medium top speeds and acceleration.
